Keeping You & Your Family Safe
The safety of Waynesboro children, adults and seniors is Lorie's top priority. Here are some of the public health and safety projects Lorie has initiated or supported:
  • Making Waynesboro bridges safe
  • New traffic lights at dangerous intersections
  • Protecting kids and pedestrians with a Traffic Calming Study
  • West End Fire Station
  • New Flood & Stormwater Commission
  • Operation Medicine Cabinet, a free pharmaceutical disposal program
  • Water Treatment Plant so residents will have clean drinking water
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant to keep our river clean
  • Improvements to outdated water and sewer lines
Bringing Good Jobs to Waynesboro
Growing and strengthening our economy is key to
low taxes and high quality of life. Here are some of the projects Lorie has supported:
  • The Mill Project at South River Complex - bringing medical offices, retail space, art studios, restaurants and apartments to downtown
  • The Waynesboro Town Center - Target shopping center)
  • Revitalization of downtown
Making Waynesboro Attractive to New Businesses
When companies look to expand or relocate in a new area, they take factors such as schools, transportation, recreation and quality of life into consideration. Waynesboro must deliver the "whole package" in order to attract new businesses. Here are some of the projects Lorie has initiated or supported:
  • The Waynesboro Circulator, a low-cost bus system
  • Relocation of Tourist Information Center
  • "Go Green Virginia Challenge" - practical actions to reduce consumption and save money
  • Improvements to public parks
  • Streetscape Project Phase I
  • Waynesboro Heritage Museum
  • Waynesboro Farmers' Market
Meeting the Needs of Seniors & Disabled Citizens
Lorie has a deep respect for Waynesboro's senior population, and she is the mother of a child with special needs, so she has always been an advocate for those with disabilities. Here are some of the projects Lorie has initiated or supported:
  • Senior Center renovations
  • Reorganization of the Disability Services Board
  • Tax Relief for seniors and disabled citizens
  • Senior Advocacy Commission
  • Waynesboro Senior Forum
Working for the Future of Our Children
Before she was a member of City Council, Lorie was elected to the Waynesboro School Board (2002 through 2006). She served as School Board Chair for 3 of those years. Here are some of the projects Lorie initiated or supported:
  • Renovation of Kate Collins Middle School
  • Construction of a Track & Soccer Complex
  • Improving teacher salaries
  • National teacher accreditation
  • Qualified nurses in each school
  • Reaching Standards of Learning (SOL) accreditation
  • Improving teacher/student ratios
  • School division revenue sharing
